waterloo road series 3

Episode 1

The school is firmly in the spotlight following the murder of drama teacher Izzie Redpath. Although head teacher Jack Rimmer won a national bravery award, he secretly blames himself for Izzie’s death.

This, together with his drive and determination to improve exam results, leads Jack into taking a high-risk approach to secure the school’s future success. It’s with the love and support of Davina Shackleton that Jack’s able to strive – until he pushes that love one step too far.

Episode 2

A fight club is in full swing at the school, with Bolton Smilie and Paul Langley at the centre. Jasmine suspects Paul is being abused and raises her concerns with Steph, who dismisses her because she is too involved with the musical and getting Matt’s attention.

Jasmine shares her worries with Eddie and her suspicions are confirmed when he finds Paul following a beating.

Episode 3

Waterloo Road’s first-ever girls’ football match kicks off and Tom encourages the team to give it all they’ve got. The girls are determined to look good, even though their football skills may not be up to scratch. With no money for new football strips, Janeece and Maxine take fund-raising matters into their own hands and sell tickets for a fake raffle with the promise of a week in Marbella.

Jasmine, meanwhile, is having the day from Hell. She can’t control her class, loses her temper and ends up jeopardising the football match by putting half of the girls’ team in detention.

Episode 4

Preparations for the Waterloo Road musical, Park Side Story, are in full swing. Ben McNulty and his girlfriend Danielle are fooling around in the art room when Ben falls, leaving him with a bleeding head. Drama teacher Matt also injures himself in his efforts to help Ben, but is shocked when Ben recoils in horror. The situation becomes even more bizarre when the usually apathetic Steph swoops in and rushes terrified Ben to hospital.

Steph knows more about Ben than she is letting on – Ben has HIV and Steph has promised his mum she won’t breathe a word of this to the other teachers.

Episode 5

Donte is on the warpath after finding Chlo and Brett in bed together. Unable to find Brett, he takes out his frustrations in the school car park. News of Chlo and Brett travels fast. Chlo is desperate to tell Mika about her and Brett before someone else does, but she is too late. Donte confronts Chlo and Mika and he reveals the awful truth. Chlo feels sick – what has she done? Mika and Donte hate her, and her friends won’t talk to her.

Episode 6

It’s a day of turmoil at Waterloo Road. Chlo is still missing, and Jack undergoes a major grilling as part of an investigation into the school’s budget.

Jack and Waterloo Road are in the media spotlight yet again as he speaks to reporters about Chlo’s disappearance. Mika is still angry, but Donte, nursing a broken heart, steals Lewis Seddon’s moped and goes to look for Chlo.

Episode 7

After Jack’s shock departure, Eddie is looking forward to taking over the reins. So it’s a bitter blow when he learns that the LEA has appointed Rachel Mason as the new Head Teacher. To add insult to injury, she announces her plan for Waterloo Road to become a ‘Business Enterprise College’. How on earth can she know what’s good for the staff and kids when she has been there less than ten minutes!?

In a desperate bid to pay off his gambling debts, Grantly Budgen resorts to gambling online using school computers. Pulled away by an angry Eddie, he forgets to close the website and Rachel finds it. She warns Grantly that he’s on his way out unless he changes his ways immediately.

Episode 8

The most difficult boys and some of the staff are going on an adventure trip. Rachel thinks the worst, and Tom is reluctant as he has only just got his family back, but he joins Eddie, Davina and Grantly. When Grantly insults Bolton Smillie’s mum, the trip provides Bolton with an opportunity to wreak revenge.

Episode 9

Karla and Janeece are in the playing fields for an archaeological dig. Grantly is preoccupied with the racing papers, until some human bones are uncovered. He rushes to get head teacher Rachel and deputy head Eddie when he realises the bones are those of a baby. Eddie becomes distressed, and, out of sight, he pulls a photograph of a baby from his wallet.

Police Detective Mellor arrives and soon discovers that the mother of the baby may be a pupil. Steph takes charge of the situation, but is stunned when the mother comes forward. Eddie can’t take any more and, when challenged, reveals he has a son his ex won’t let him see.

Episode 10

Rachel and Eddie prepare to present their initiative for Waterloo Road, the Rochdale Business and Enterprise College. The presentation is wrecked, however, when Eddie’s ex Alison turns up and dumps his son Michael on him. Eddie is happy, but Rachel is left struggling with the presentation on her own.

Rachel decides to salvage the situation by bringing the first performance of the school musical, Park Side Story, forward.

Episode 11

It’s the start of the spring term at Waterloo Road, but Head Teacher Rachel finds her office has been ransacked – and the only things missing are the contents of her own personnel file.

Bolton Smilie and his gang see school as just a game. Rachel is convinced a trip to a prison could give them the scare they need. Bolton is well up for it – his jailbird dad has told him prison is a cushy number.

Episode 12

Rachel is bemused when developer Stuart Hordley shows up and makes a plea to reinstate his bid to build Waterloo Road’s training centre. Rachel explains she has no influence, and is shocked to discover he has a copy of the Deed Poll showing her change of name. Rachel wants rid of Stuart, but he quickly ingratiates himself, especially with Eddie. It’s music to Eddie’s ears when Stuart offers an office junior’s job for the best candidate at the afternoon’s interviews – which infuriates Rachel.

Episode 13

The ‘Lessons for Life’ kids are being taunted and accused of being thick, and are caught fighting. Tom and Eddie come up with a plan to give them more responsibility by making them Prefects. Bolton and Paul take their new responsibilities rather too seriously and, dubbing themselves ‘enforcers’, they set about prowling the corridors and confiscating contraband.

Steph returns from her fund-raising trip to France with an expenses sheet longer than her arm, but no cash.

Episode 14

Jasmine spots a scrap before school between renowned bully, Michaela White and younger pupil, Shane Warwick. She intervenes – roughly pulling Michaela away – and reports the incident to Tom. However, when he interviews the pupils, both deny any bullying and, more worryingly, claim Jasmine had assaulted Michaela. When Michaela later turns up in Rachel’s office with a bruise on her face, Rachel is reluctantly forced to suspend Jasmine, pending an investigation.

Episode 15

Matt panics when his mother, Susan announces she is arriving at his flat, and hurriedly removes all traces of Colin.

Eddie, meanwhile, wants Jasmine to fight Michaela’s bullying allegations, but she can’t face the Governors’ meeting later that night.

Elsewhere, some of the sixth formers are on work experience at Colin’s company. Matt tells Colin he wants him to move out for a few days, and is overheard by Maxine, who sends a text message back to school.

Back at school, Matt has been ‘outed’ and some anti-gay graffiti is discovered in the toilets.

Episode 16

It’s the last day at Waterloo Road for supply teacher Wilson Bingham. Tom is not happy to see him go.

Janeece has fallen for Wilson big time – and it appears that he feels the same about her. He tells her he has booked a hotel room in Manchester and convinces her to keep their relationship secret, but Steph’s suspicions are aroused.

Eddie confronts Rachel about her sordid past. She admits the truth, and the blackmail, but property developer Hordley’s bid was still the best. Eddie feels he has no choice – either she reports Hordley, or he resigns.

Episode 17

Mika takes her eco-warrior plans to another level, with Brett, on the building site of the new Training Centre.

Oblivious, headmistress Rachel counters Eddie’s plans to resign by winding him up. His mood later worsens when Steph shows him a bounced cheque from Hordley.

Rachel leaves Tom to deal with Mika, and says if he doesn’t get through to her she faces exclusion.

Episode 18

Sameen breaks into the school at dawn, changing from her pyjamas into a football kit. The team has an early morning training session for a big match that afternoon. On the field, Sameen throws a strop. A worried Tom speaks to Rachel, and Sameen is sent to the cooler when she refuses to explain herself.

Immigration officials arrive at the school looking for Sameen. Earlier that morning, she escaped from the detention centre where she and her family were awaiting deportation to their home country of Iran.

Episode 19

Having recently split from Davina, Tom is conflicted when Rachel asks him to mentor her teaching training. It’s clear they both feel something for each other but neither will say what the other wants to hear.

At lunchtime, Donte spots Davina getting into a swanky car and is shocked when he sees that the driver is Jack Rimmer. He’s been offered a new head post in Dubai and invites Davina to go with him.

Episode 20

It’s the last day of term at Waterloo Road and head teacher Rachel is on top of the world – Stuart Hordley is off her case and her plans for the school are finally coming together. She’s unaware that Sheila Hanson from the examinations board is looking for her and Grantly is trying to head her off, determined to cover up the exam cheating.

Hordley arrives and witnesses Waterloo Road storming to victory in a spelling bee against a local school. In front of an audience of children, parents and teachers, Rachel makes a speech, which is halted when Hordley exposes her past activities as a prostitute.
